CINCINNATI -- After Seth Smith left Tuesday's game with a tight right hamstring, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said it might be a disabled-list situation.
Wednesday, Smith was still active and possibly available.
"It's one of those things," Showalter said. "Probably a couple of days. You don't want to DL him right after the game and then come in today and have him fine. "It was an issue [Tuesday], but it's probably about as good as we could have expected [Wednesday]. Unfortunately, it's one of those things where you won't know until he plays in a game."
Smith led off for the Orioles in seven of their 12 games. With him out Wednesday, Trey Mancini hit leadoff and started in left field. Craig Gentry, who hit leadoff in the five games Smith didn't, was on the bench to start Wednesday's game.
"We'll try it and see how it works," Showalter said. If Smith had gone on the DL, Joey Rickard would not have taken his place, as he is on the DL with a strained right middle finger. He's progressing, but Showalter said he's probably five days away. That will likely include a short Minor League rehab assignment.
"He's reaching that point -- he's past the 10 days -- he'll probably have to go get at-bats," Showalter said. "Have a day or two of at-bats to make sure it's not going to swell the next day.
Wednesday, Rickard hit off the tee and threw for the first time since sustaing the injury with no ill effects.
"You've got to see how he feels tomorrow," Showalter said. "We're hoping he can progress to the next step."
MRI for Britton 
Closer Zach Britton (left forearm strain) will get an MRI.
"He's feeling better every day," Showalter said. "That encouraging. We were going to get one to make sure. You've got to be careful. You're always going to find something if you take a picture of an elbow. But we thought it would be a good idea. He's moving along nicely."
Aquino called up
The Orioles made a roster move Wednesday, recalling left-hander Jayson Aquino from Triple-A Norfolk, and optioning right-hander Tyler Wilson from Norfolk. Wilson was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in five games with the Orioles. Aquino, 24, was 1-1 with a 4.00 ERA in two starts for Norfolk.
"Tyler's done a good job for us," Showalter said. "It's just one of those things. We needed an arm."
Aquino is a possibility to start Saturday.
