DETROIT -- Shane Greene tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out seven in his second Minor League rehab start, this one for Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday morning against Durham. Whether he'll make another rehab start as he builds back his pitch count following a right middle finger blister at the end of April isn't yet clear.
"That decision's not up to me," Greene said.
Greene made the trip down Interstate 75 with a pitch count around 60. He threw 61 pitches, allowing four hits but no walks.
The 27-year-old didn't have any clean innings, but he struck out two batters in each of his first three frames before ending his outing with a strikeout of Kyle Roller.
"I put a couple guys on in a couple innings," Greene said, "but I was just competing with myself for the most part and got some guys out."
The blister, Greene said, was no issue once again.
Greene's next turn would be next Monday or Tuesday. In theory, it could be for the Tigers, who might have to figure out a fill-in for Jordan Zimmermann while he recuperates from a right groin strain. But the open spot in the Tigers' rotation on Saturday in Oakland suggests they'll have a fill-in before then.
