Miller set to return to rotation Monday

Bradley will remain in rotation, while Godley will move to bullpen

June 17th, 2016

PHILADELPHIA -- With Shelby Miller ready to come off the disabled list and start Monday afternoon against the Phillies, the D-backs have made some adjustments to the rotation -- Archie Bradley will stay in while Zack Godley will shift to the bullpen.
Miller, who has been on the disabled list since May 25 with a right index finger sprain, pitched well in two rehab starts for Class A Visalia, with his velocity getting up to 95 mph.
With Miller's return, either Bradley or Godley had to leave the rotation ,and since Godley has more experience working out of the bullpen, he was the choice.
"I think we just felt like Godley was easier to go into the bullpen," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "Archie's been pitching well for us consistently. I just think he earned it over Godley right now. There are some thoughts to send Godley back [to the Minors] and have him start and stay on schedule, but we feel like at least until the All-Star break, if something were to happen to another starter, Zack could go back into the starting rotation without any problems."
Worth noting
• Outfielder/infielder Chris Owings received a cortisone shot in his left foot to help treat his plantar fasciitis. Owings, who was placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to June 6, could return not long after his days are up, Hale said.
"Maybe by the middle of next week, he's into games," Hale said, referring to a rehab stint.
