• Second baseman Jedd Gyorko flew to Fresno on Friday to start his rehab assignment (plantar fasciitis) with Triple-A El Paso. He is scheduled to play six innings on Saturday against the Fresno Giants then a full game on Sunday.

• Tommy Medica will likely avoid a trip to the disabled list, as his groin injury progressed positively over the All-Star break. He was available to pinch-hit on Friday, though Padres manager Bud Black indicated the team would pinch-run for him if he reached base.
