The 2016 season officially will arrive for six more Major League ballparks today.
The Astros, Cardinals, Cubs, Phillies, Red Sox and Twins all play their home openers, leaving the Dodgers as the only team yet to play at home (for one more day). Those contests lead the way for an 11-game Monday slate.
Here are today's games to watch, as MLB's second week begins (all times ET).
Max is back in D.C.: ATL@WAS, 7:05 p.m.
In Max Scherzer's first season with the Nationals, the right-hander authored some memorable games in Washington. That included his no-hitter against the Pirates last June 20, when he came within one out of a perfect game. With an extra day of rest in his pocket, Scherzer makes his 2016 debut at Nationals Park, facing the same Braves club he held to two runs on three hits over seven innings last Monday in Atlanta. He faces righty Bud Norris, who tossed a solid seven frames against the Nats in his Braves debut last Wednesday.
Matz goes for Mets: MIA@NYM, 7:10 p.m.
Mets left-hander Steven Matz, expected to be a contender for National League Rookie of the Year honors, finally will make his season debut. Matz shined in six regular-season starts last year (2.27 ERA, 34 strikeouts) and also was solid in a trio of postseason outings. He will face Marlins righty Jarred Cosart, who is in the same boat, after his first start was pushed back due to Saturday's postponed game in Washington.
Wrigley opens for business: CIN@CHC, 8:05 p.m.
If Cubs fans' dreams comes true, the club could end this season by claiming a long-awaited championship at Wrigley Field. For now, Chicago will focus on the task at hand in its home opener, in a battle of teams off to hot starts. At 5-1, the Cubs and Reds are tied atop the NL Central after the first week. The series opener is a clash of southpaws, with Cincinnati's Brandon Finnegan -- who turns 23 on Thursday -- taking on Chicago veteran Jon Lester. The game also marks the home debuts at Wrigley for offseason acquisitions such as Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist.
"I've always loved playing there -- great vibe, great atmosphere. I can't wait to be a part of it," Heyward said. "It'll be crazy in a good way for us."

ALDS rematch: KC@HOU, 8:10 p.m.
The last game at Houston's Minute Maid Park came last Oct. 12, when the Astros hosted the Royals in Game 4 of the American League Division Series. Unfortunately for the home crowd in that one, Kansas City scored five runs in the eighth inning to erase a four-run deficit, going on to win, 9-6, and forcing a Game 5. The Royals then took the decisive contest back at Kauffman Stadium, on their way to a championship. Six months later, the teams will meet again in the Astros' home opener, with Chris Young starting for the Royals against Collin McHugh, who lasted only one-third of an inning in his season debut at Yankee Stadium, allowing six runs.
