Snake bites

• Right-hander Daniel Hudson threw a flat-ground bullpen session Tuesday for the first time since last summer's Tommy John surgery.

"He's been doing great and there have been no setbacks," Gibson said. "For him, I'm sure it's significant in that it puts him a step closer."

Hudson is not scheduled to return until mid-July.

• The D-backs will cut their roster down in the coming days. The reduced numbers will help the club get more individual drill work in. Since the Minor Leaguers began Spring Training, the D-backs have been limited to two full fields and the numbers are too many.

• Eric Chavez was back in the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies after being hit in the forehead with a grounder Monday. Chavez was scratched from Monday's lineup. Meanwhile second baseman Aaron Hill was scratched from the lineup Tuesday. Hill left Monday's game early with a stomach virus.
