Snake bites

• Shortstop Willie Bloomquist began an injury rehabilitation assignment with Reno on Friday. Bloomquist was scheduled to play Friday and Saturday, take Sunday off and then play Monday and Tuesday.

"That's as far as I can go with it," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said about Bloomquist's schedule. "We'll see how he feels."

• The D-backs are heading into a tough part of their schedule, with four games coming up against the American League's top team in the Rangers. Arizona also will travel to St. Louis for a four-game set against the National League's best team.

"I think things are just heating up," Gibson said. "The season is really getting going. We're getting into it now. we'll certainly be tested and have to try and probably rest guys a little more than I have so far."
