Snake bites

• Injured closer J.J. Putz came through back-to-back rehab outings Monday and Tuesday for Triple-A Reno without any problems, and he is expected to take a couple of days off before joining the D-backs in Atlanta, where he'll be activated.

• Second baseman Aaron Hill was 2-for-4 on Tuesday night, his first big league action since going on the disabled list April 15.

"He was on base a lot, swung the bat well," Gibson said. "We've missed him. It's going to take us some time to adjust and figure out the right place to put him, and for me how to play him, how many days in a row I want to play him. Keep him healthy, just keep him kind of building his strength back, get him back up to game speed."

• Injured third baseman Eric Chavez played back-to-back games for Reno, and he was scheduled to take Tuesday off before playing in back-to-back games again.

"We'll just kind of see where he's at after he plays in his next two-game stint," Gibson said.
