Snake bites

• After starting four straight games, D-backs second baseman Aaron Hill was out of the starting lineup Thursday.

Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said that up until the All-Star break, he will try not to start Hill, who missed more than two months with a fracture in his left hand, more than four days in a row.

• While Hill was out of the lineup, outfielder Gerardo Parra was back in it after missing a pair of games from being shaken up while diving for a ball on the warning track in Monday's game.

"He was good, he walked in and said he was ready to go," Gibson said. "It's good to have him back out there."
