Soria offers no excuses for blown save vs. Yanks

NEW YORK -- Rangers closer Joakim Soria suffered his second blown save of the season on Tuesday night after he entered the game in the 13th inning with a 1-0 lead. He gave up a leadoff double to Brett Gardner and a one-out single to Jacoby Ellsbury. The Rangers ended up losing in 14 innings.

Soria had been throwing lightly since the eighth inning in preparation for entering the game if the Rangers took the lead. That didn't happen until J.P. Arencibia's leadoff home run in the 13th. But Soria said being up a lot didn't affect him in the 13th.

"It is not an excuse," Soria said. "I felt good pitching. It's a part of baseball, they score off you. I was trying to hold a one-run lead, and it didn't happen. A blown save, it doesn't matter where you are in the standings. … You want to win the game, and when it doesn't happen, it hurts."

Manager Ron Washington said he was determined to wait until the Rangers took the lead before he used Soria.

"I got in the situation I wanted to get into," Washington said. "I felt like I worked my guy into the game where he needed to be. We just didn't get it done."
