Drew expected to come off DL on Saturday

BOSTON -- Stephen Drew will get at least another half-season to leave a good impression on the Red Sox as he's expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday and play shortstop against the Yankees, according to manager John Farrell.

Drew has been out since June 28 with right hamstring tightness, though he was starting to get hot right before he went down, collecting five extra-base hits in his last four games.

On a one-year contract with the Red Sox, Drew is hitting .233 with 14 doubles and five homers over 232 at-bats. He's posted a .722 OPS, close to his .759 career OPS, and he's a few ticks above the numbers he posted over the past two years.

Drew is scheduled to play nine innings as the designated hitter with Double-A Portland on Thursday, six or seven innings at shortstop on Friday and should be activated Saturday.
