Stras, LaRoche, Harper undergo minor surgeries

With 4-6 weeks recovery time, all expected to be ready for Spring Training

WASHINGTON -- Three Nationals players -- Stephen Strasburg, Adam LaRoche and Bryce Harper -- went under the knife recently.

Strasburg underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow on Friday. The cleanup procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. Strasburg is scheduled to resume his throwing program in 4-6 weeks and is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

LaRoche underwent successful surgery Wednesday to remove loose bodies from his left elbow. The procedure was performed by Dr. Weimi Douoguih at the Washington Hospital Center. LaRoche will resume workouts in 4-6 weeks and is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

Neither Strasburg nor LaRoche complained of injuries this past season. Strasburg did miss a start in September because of forearm tightness, but was back on the mound a few days later.

LaRoche had one of his worst seasons in 2013, but he said medication for attention deficit disorder was the cause of his disappointing year. He lost a significant amount of weight because of the medication and had problems hitting for power. LaRoche also missed the final two games of the season because of a biceps strain.

Also on Wednesday, Harper underwent successful surgery to repair the bursa in his left knee. Harper hurt the knee on May 13, when he slammed into the right-field wall at Dodger Stadium. The procedure was performed by Dr. Richard Steadman in Vail, Colo. Harper will resume workouts in 4-6 weeks and is expected to be ready for Spring Training.
