Strasburg throws pain-free bullpen session

WASHINGTON -- On Tuesday afternoon, for the first time since landing on the disabled list with a strained left oblique on July 5, Stephen Strasburg threw a bullpen session at Nationals Park.

The session lasted about 30 pitches, manager Matt Williams said, and Strasburg went through his full repertoire of fastballs, changeups and breaking balls.

"We'll see how he feels tomorrow," Williams said. "I would imagine some general body soreness tomorrow after being off a little while and getting back on the slope, but he had no pain throwing. That's a good sign."

Strasburg is in the middle of his second stint on the DL this year. His first came after a tough start to the season, but before this current trip, he showed much improvement, going 2-0 with two earned runs allowed in 15 2/3 innings.

His next step has yet to be determined.

"[It] depends on how he feels," Williams said. "It was a light bullpen today for the first one. I wouldn't necessarily expect that we'd throw him right into a game. We'll see where he is tomorrow, though, and have a better idea."

Strasburg, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2009 Draft, is 5-5 with a 5.16 ERA in 2015.
