Steve Foster named special assistant

The Kansas City Royals announced today that Major League bullpen coach Steve Foster has been hired by the club as Special Assistant to the General Manager/Minor League Pitching Coordinator.  Foster’s last game in his current role will be tonight against the Minnesota Twins as he will assume this new role immediately.

“Steve made an incredible difference building continuity within our Major League bullpen,” Royals General Manager Dayton Moore said.  “We are excited about the positive impact and influence Steve will have as he transitions to this important position in our minor league system.”

"We are very happy Steve will be part of our development staff. He has a passion not only to develop pitchers but to impact young men's lives,” said Royals Assistant General Manager-Scouting & Player Development J.J. Picollo.  “We've had a chance to work together for three years and know Steve is supportive of our goals as a development department and will breathe new life into the development of our young pitchers."

Royals’ Senior Pitching Advisor Bill Fischer will be in the bullpen the final two games of the Twins series this weekend and again during Monday’s contest against the Texas Rangers and then minor league pitching coaches Larry Carter and Doug Henry will split the remainder of the games this season.

Foster, 46, was named the club’s bullpen coach on October 27, 2009 after three seasons in the same role with the Florida Marlins.
