Wright remains out with concussion symptoms

Red Sox not rushing knuckleballer's return; Barnes could get another start

BOSTON -- Knuckleballer Steven Wright is still experiencing concussion symptoms and is likely to miss at least one more start, according to interim manager Torey Lovullo.

Wright is eligible to be activated on Friday, but that won't happen.

"Steven is doing OK," said Lovullo. "I know that his day of eligibility is coming up here. He is experiencing some symptoms here, and with the protocol through Major League Baseball, we can't rush that process. He's working daily to improve."

What are the symptoms?

"I think the original problem he had -- he failed a balance test. I think it's probably right in that area still," Lovullo said.

Matt Barnes filled in for Wright on Monday and could get another crack this weekend against the Royals.

"At this point, I think we haven't quite determined that," Lovullo said. "We feel like Matt threw the ball well enough, and if Steven's not ready, I think that's a direction we would consider."
