STOCKTON, Calif. -- For Kevin Ogans, seeing his son, Keyshawn, take the field in the Prospect Development Pipeline Premier event on Friday served as vindication for the hard work and the time that Keyshawn put in to baseball.

"He's wanted to be a big leaguer since he was 2 years old," Ogans said from the stands as Keyshawn, a shortstop and outfielder who attends Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in San Francisco, warmed up by playing catch a few feet away.
Ogans, one of the many parents in attendance, came prepared for the long day in the California summer heat, bringing along a gallon of water, chips and other snacks. Keyshawn's travel ball team had a game on Friday as well, but this event was more important.
Thirty-six of the top high school prospects in Northern California showcased their skills at Banner Island Ballpark at the Prospect Development Pipeline Premier event, an effort by MLB and USA Baseball to establish a pathway for amateur baseball players.
The players ran through five hours of drills, batting practice and infield and outfield work before wrapping up with a live game. One big league scout in attendance was impressed by the number of quality prospects at the event, adding that this was the best group in the Northern California and Nevada regions.
The scout also pointed out several players to watch for down the line. Here are some names to know:
Kyren Paris, Freedom HS (Oakley, Calif.)
Paris is a middle infielder who is committed to Cal. He uses the entire field at the plate, which he showcased during his batting practice session. The scout called Paris a solid prospect who can hit for average, but lacks power. In the game, Paris also flashed some speed, stealing second and taking third after a wild throw.
Brock Jones, Buchanan HS (Clovis, Calif.)
Jones is a two-sport athlete, also playing safety at Buchanan. On the baseball field, he is an outfielder who can hit and run, the scout said. Jones has received offers for baseball from many schools, including Stanford, Washington and Miami, and was one of five players from Buchanan attending the event. Jones also made the A's Area Code Team.
Joseph King, Woodside HS (Redwood City, Calif.)
King plays both pitcher and catcher, and is also a two-sport athlete, playing quarterback for the Woodside football team. He was an honorable mention in last season's All-Bay Area News Group team for baseball, and is committed to Washington State. The scout wasn't sure of King's ability to hit, though he did belt a home run during batting practice, after which he proclaimed, "I didn't know I could do that."

Glenallen Hill Jr., Santa Cruz HS (Santa Cruz, Calif.)
The son of former Major League outfielder Glenallen Hill, Hill Jr. followed in his father's footsteps by committing to Arizona State. Hill Jr. possesses both speed and raw power, though the scout said he has some holes in his game, including a lot of swings and misses. But, the scout added, he has good blood lines.

TJ Fondtain, Buchanan HS (Clovis, Calif.)
Fondtain, a left-handed pitcher and first baseman, throws a quality fastball with good command. The scout was impressed by his arm strength. If he develops at the plate, Fondtain could be a two-way player in college.
Connor Lawrence, California HS (San Ramon, Calif.)
Though not originally on the scout's radar, Lawrence, a catcher and outfielder, made an impression on the scout after taking batting practice and going through drills on the field. He is committed to Tennessee.
