Why he'll win: Whereas Vargas enjoyed his 2014 road starts, Vogelsong excelled at home. He had a 3.06 ERA at AT&T Park (compared with 5.10 on the road), and just two of the 18 regular-season homers he allowed were hit in San Francisco.
Pitcher beware: Vogelsong was hit hard in his most recent start, against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on seven hits in three innings. The task does not get any easier against a Royals offense that has been on point in the postseason.
Bottom line: Vogelsong and the majority of the players in the Royals' lineup are completely foreign to each other. Who can make quick adjustments to this dual unknown will be the determinant here.
