Rays break out formal wear for road trip

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays are making their fifth "themed" road trip of the year with their "James Bond Formal Trip," as they head to Oakland to begin a three-stop trip that also includes Chicago and Texas.

This is the 33rd such trip since Rays manager Joe Maddon introduced the concept in 2008.

Some like Jeremy Hellickson have never worn a tuxedo before. Others like Kevin Kiermaier and Cole Figueroa last wore one at their respective high school proms, while Grant Balfour and Brandon Guyer have not worn a tuxedo since their weddings.

So it's safe to assume that formal wear is not a staple within the Rays' clubhouse.

Of note, "Jake 'n the Box" -- relievers Jake McGee and Brad Boxberger planned to dress as a pair. McGee had an orange tux and top hat, while Boxberger had the same ensemble -- only in blue -- just like the movie, "Dumb and Dumber."

"Only we don't have canes," McGee said.
