New faces
The Rays added a high-ceiling pitching prospect during the offseason in De Leon, acquiring him from the Dodgers for in January. Fox, a 19-year-old shortstop who came over from the Giants at the Trade Deadline in the Matt Moore deal, is set to make his organizational debut with Class A Bowling Green after being sidelined with a foot injury late last season. Tampa Bay also added Gadea in December's Rule 5 Draft, plucking the 22-year-old righty from Seattle's system.
On the shelf
Jose De Leon (No. 31 overall) was ticketed for Durham's rotation before it was announced he'd begin the season on the disabled list with minor discomfort in his right flexor muscle. Gadea, meanwhile, was likely to be returned to the Mariners until he came down with right forearm tendinitis towards the end of camp. As a result, he'll now begin the season on the 60-day disabled list and won't be eligible to return until June, allowing the Rays extra time to evaluate his health and overall progress.
