The Rays have experienced some trying times with their starting rotation this season, most recently losing Alex Cobb for the remainder of the season due to Tommy John surgery and Drew Smyly for an undetermined amount of time due to a labrum tear.
That has left the fifth spot in the rotation in a perpetual dangling situation.
On Saturday night, the Rays filled the spot with Matt Andriese starting, short stints by Brandon Gomes and Steve Geltz, followed by an extended appearance by Andrew Bellatti, who got the win after pitching 3 1/3 innings. Brad Boxberger finished out the night with two-thirds of an inning to earn his eighth save.
Erasmo Ramirez is another option.
"The combination of Andriese, Bellatti and Erasmo -- all of those just kind of see what their usage is the next couple of days [before the Rays make a decision for Thursday night's starter]."
The possibility also exists that the Rays could make a roster move in advance of Thursday's game.
