Myers recalls embarrassing moment

KANSAS CITY -- Prior to getting drafted by the Royals in the third round of the 2009 Draft, Wil Myers went to Kansas City to work out for the Royals.

At that workout, Myers asked the Royals if the team would mind turning on the fountain in center field while he hit. Prior to Monday night's Rays-Royals game at Kauffman Stadium, a reporter reminded Myers of the story.

"That story still haunts me," said Myers managing a smile.

The natural follow-up by another reporter was whether Myers had actually asked the Royals to turn on the fountain.

"I did," said Myers sheepishly. "I was 18, all right?"

For the record, Myers added that the Royals did not turn on the fountain.
