Collins wins challenge in 1st ASG replay review

Out call on Murphy at first base overturned in fifth as Altuve commits error

July 13th, 2016

SAN DIEGO -- Terry Collins managed to create a bit of history Tuesday in his debut as National League All-Star manager in the American League's 4-2 win at Petco Park.
Collins initiated the first replay review in All-Star Game history, after first-base umpire Kerwin Danley called Daniel Murphy out on a routine ground ball in the fifth. When American League second baseman Jose Altuve bobbled the grounder, it gave Murphy enough time to chug to first base, arriving at around the same time as Altuve's throw.
Relying on a league-provided replay assistant, instead of the usual team employee who handles such issues at Citi Field, Collins opted to review the call. The umpiring crew subsequently overturned it, though Murphy did not wind up scoring in the inning.
