Arlington, TX -- The Texas Rangers and Academy Sports + Outdoors today announced that they will partner on a Sports Equipment Drive at the club's Winter Caravan stop on Sunday, January 24 in Garland. Academy Sports + Outdoors is the sponsor of the 2016 Rangers Winter Caravan.
The Rangers will appear at the Academy Sports + Outdoors location at 4920 North Garland Avenue from 1:30-2:30 p.m. At that appearance, fans are encouraged to make donations of new and gently-used sports equipment, which will go to the victims of the devastating December 26 tornadoes in North Texas. Garland was one of the hardest-hit areas by the storms.
Academy Sports + Outdoors has contributed $5,000 towards the purchase of equipment as part of the relief effort.
Earlier this month, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation made a donation of $25,000 to aid in the relief effort in North Texas with the monies going to the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. In addition, the Rangers provided gift cards for families impacted by the tornados in the area.
Elvis Andrus, Delino DeShields, Chris Gimenez, and Ryan Rua are scheduled to appear at the January 24 Garland store appearance.
