The Texas Rangers will host the Cleveland Indians in the club's 2017 season opener on Monday, April 3. The complete 2017 schedule was announced today by Major League Baseball.
This will mark the 26th time in 46 seasons that the Rangers have opened at home, the seventh in the last nine years. It will be the fourth occasion on which the Rangers have opened with the Indians, winning at Cleveland Stadium in 1982, losing in 1984 and winning in 1988 at Arlington Stadium, and winning at Globe Life Park in 2009.
The Rangers will also host Cleveland on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4-5 before concluding the opening homestand with three games against the Oakland A's, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 7-9. The team then goes on a nine-game West Coast trip to the Los Angeles Angels, Seattle, and Oakland with the road opener in Anaheim on Monday, April 10.
With 15 teams in each league, interleague play will take place throughout the entire regular season for the fifth straight year. Clubs will again play 19 games against division opponents (76 total games) and either six or seven contests vs. non-divisional league opponents in home and home series (66 total games). Each club will also play 20 interleague games (10 home/10 road), with the Rangers facing San Diego and the five N.L. East clubs in 2017.
Texas will play 19 times each versus A.L. West Division foes Houston, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Seattle. In interleague play, the Rangers will have two-game home and home series with the New York Mets and San Diego Padres. Texas rounds out its interleague schedule by hosting the Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies for three games each and traveling to the Atlanta Braves new ballpark and the Washington Nationals for three-game series.
The 2017 home schedule also features four-game series with the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, and Toronto Blue Jays. Texas will be at home on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 versus Tampa Bay and Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4 against Boston. The club also plays its final seven games of the regular season at Globe Life Park in Arlington, hosting the Houston Astros (Sept. 25-27) and Oakland A's (Sept. 28-Oct. 1).
Game times for the 2017 schedule will be announced at a later date.
