Texas Rangers announce promotions in baseball operations department

Texas Rangers President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jon Daniels today announced several promotions within the team's baseball operations department that included the appointments of Josh Boyd, Mike Daly, and Jayce Tingler as Assistant General Managers.

Texas Rangers President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jon Daniels today announced several promotions within the team's baseball operations department that included the appointments of Josh Boyd, Mike Daly, and Jayce Tingler as Assistant General Managers.
A complete listing of the baseball operations promotions:
--Josh Boyd: Promoted to Assistant General Manager overseeing Professional Scouting, Research & Development, and Pacific Rim Operations.
--Mike Daly: Promoted to Assistant General Manager overseeing Major League Operation and International Scouting.
--Jayce Tingler: Promoted to Assistant General Manager overseeing Player Development.
--Mike Anderson and Scot Engler: Promoted to Special Assistants to the General Manager.
--Todd Walther: Promoted to Director, Pitching Research & Development.
--Curtis Jung: Promoted to Special Assignment Scout.
In addition, with the elevation of Tingler, the Rangers announced the hiring of Josh Bonifay as Major League Field Coordinator on manager Jeff Banister's coaching staff. His responsibilities will include serving as the team's outfield and baserunning coach.  
"These promotions to Assistant General Manager reflect the outstanding contributions that Josh, Mike, and Jayce have made to our success over a decade plus," said Daniels. "They have been key producers and leaders in the organization for years and are ready to take on greater responsibilities setting our direction as we go forward.
"Our professional and international scouts have played a big role in our acquisition of talent, and these new roles for Mike, Scot, Todd, and Curtis reward jobs well done. We are also pleased to be adding Josh Bonifay, and he will be a big asset to our big league staff."
Boyd spent the last two years as Senior Director of Player Personnel after serving as Director of Pro Scouting from 2009-14. He joined the Rangers in 2008 as Assistant Director of Pro Scouting after four years as a scout with San Diego.
Daly has overseen Texas' player development operation for the last three years as Senior Director, Player Development. In his ten years with the Rangers, he has also served in amateur, international, and professional scouting roles, including Director of International Scouting from 2010-13. Daly, who had a six-year tenure Cleveland before joining Texas, will also serve as the baseball operations liaison in the development of the Rangers' new ballpark.
Tingler moves to the front office after spending the last two seasons as Field Coordinator and outfield and baserunning coach on the major league staff. He spent the previous eight years as a minor league manager and coach in the Texas organization, including a three-year stint as Minor League Field Coordinator from 2012-14.       
Anderson is a ten-year veteran in the Texas organization, spending the last eight seasons as a professional scout. Engler, the recipient of Texas' 2013 Don Welke Scout of the Year Award, joined the Rangers as a professional scout in 2008. Walther has been with Texas for 11 seasons, the last seven as a pro scout after working in player development and video operations. Jung, who has been elevated from Manager, Pacific Rim Operations, joined Texas' international scouting staff in 2011.
Bonifay comes to the Texas organization after six years in the Houston Astros minor league system. He compiled a 191-158 record over the last four years managing Greeneville (2013-14; 2016) and Quad Cities (2015) after two seasons as a minor league coach. Bonifay began his coaching career as a player/coach in the Pittsburgh organization in 2007. He is the son of former Pirates General Manager and current Reds Special Assistant Cam Bonifay.
