The Texas Rangers today announced the appointment of Shiraz Rehman as Assistant General Manager.
The 41-year-old Rehman joins the Texas organization after seven years in the baseball operations group of the Chicago Cubs, most recently as Assistant General Manager, Strategic Initiatives. He will start in his new position with the Rangers this week.
With the Rangers, Rehman will assist President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jon Daniels in the day-to-day management of Major League operations of the baseball department, including player acquisitions, roster management, player contracts, and salary arbitration. He will also be involved in other areas of baseball operations.
"I believe that Shiraz Rehman will be a valuable addition to our baseball operations team," said Daniels. "He has extensive experience with the Diamondbacks and Cubs in a number of roles that will be beneficial to our group. Shiraz will join Josh Boyd, Mike Daly, and several others in key baseball leadership positions as we go forward."
Rehman joined the Cubs as Assistant to the General Manager in November, 2011 shortly after Chicago hired President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein and General Manager Jed Hoyer. He was promoted to Assistant General Manager a year later with his responsibilities including providing scouting, financial, and statistical information to support trade and player evaluation, salary arbitration, and development of the club's evaluation technologies and research and development department.
He was appointed as the Assistant General Manager, Strategic Initiatives after the 2017 season and in that role, focused on evaluating existing systems, and identifying and implementing solutions in an effort to create competitive advantages in the organization.
Prior to joining the Cubs, Rehman spent six seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball operations department as Manager of Baseball Operations, Director of Baseball Operations, and Director of Player Personnel. He began his baseball career as an intern in the Boston Red Sox baseball department in 2005.
Rehman is a 1999 graduate of McGill University in Montreal, where he earned a bachelor's degree in finance and accounting and was a four-year letterman for the baseball team. Before getting into baseball, he spent more than five years as a commodities trader and financial consultant and obtained his MBA from Columbia (NY) Business School in 2006.   
Rehman, his wife Beth, (a Midland, TX native) and their two children, daughter Eden (8) and son Mays (5) will be relocating from Chicago to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
