Gallo hits three homers to lead Pelicans' 21-run attack

Rangers No. 5 prospect, 2013 Minors home run champ, boosts long ball total to nine

Third baseman Joey Gallo, the reigning Minor League home run champion, hit three home runs Wednesday to lead Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach to a 21-6 win over Frederick.

Gallo, the Rangers' No. 5 prospect and No. 90 overall, finished the night 3-for-4 with three walks, four runs and six RBIs. It was the third three-homer game of his career.

Gallo led the Minor Leagues with 40 home runs last season. He already has nine home runs in 19 games this season, the second most in the Minor Leagues. He trails only Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez, who hit 10 home runs before being called up to the Major Leagues on Monday.

Joining Gallo in the offensive outburst Wednesday were fellow Rangers prospects catcher Jorge Alfaro (No. 1) and center fielder Nick Williams (No. 6). Alfaro went 3-for-7 with a double and two runs and Williams hit his second home run of the season.

Every player in the Pelicans lineup had at least one hit and run scored, and eight of the nine players had multiple hits. Eight of the nine also scored multiple runs, and six different Pelicans had three-hit games.
