Texas Rangers to host 2013 RBI Southwest Regional Tournament, Friday thru Sunday

Ten teams from five cities in the region competing for berth to 2013 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities World Series in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota

Arlington, Texas--The Texas Rangers will host the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) Southwest Regional Tournament from Thursday, July 18th to Sunday, July 21st at several fields throughout Arlington, Texas. Ten teams from five cities throughout the region will compete in the tournament, including. The RBI Southwest Regional Tournament championship games will be played Workman Softball Complex (softball championship), Lamar High School (junior baseball championship) and Rangers Ballpark in Arlington (senior baseball championship), the home of the Texas Rangers. RBI Regional Tournament champions earn a berth to the 2013 RBI World Series, the international championship tournament of the RBI program, which will be held in Minneapolis and St. Paul Minnesota this year. This will be the second time the Texas Rangers have hosted the RBI Southwest Regional Tournament.

Leagues participating in this year's RBI Southwest Regional Tournament include Austin RBI, Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington RBI, Houston RBI, Mississippi RBI (Jackson, MS) and New Orleans RBI.

The 2013 RBI World Series will be hosted by the Minnesota Twins from August 3rd to 14th at various locations throughout the Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. The baseball championship games will be played at Target Field, the home of the Minnesota Twins. The softball championship game will be played at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium, the home of the University of Minnesota softball team. Both the senior division baseball championship and the softball championship games will air on MLB Network and stream on MLB.com.

The RBI program is a Major League Baseball youth initiative designed to provide opportunities for young people, ages 5 to 18, from underserved and urban communities to play baseball and softball, to encourage academic excellence and achievement, and to teach the value of teamwork and other important life lessons. The RBI program provides more than 210,000 boys and girls the opportunity to play baseball and softball in approximately 300 programs in more than 200 cities worldwide.
