Texas Rangers to Participate in Cowboy Santas Toy Drive for 2014 Holiday Season

Toys may be dropped off beginning today Rangers Foundation Holiday Sales Events scheduled for December 11 and 12

Arlington, TX - The Texas Rangers announced today details of the team's participation in the 2014 Cowboy Santas Toy Drive, the fourth consecutive year in which the organization has been involved in the holiday initiative.

Pitcher Tanner Scheppers and his wife Jessica are serving as the Honorary Spokespersons for the program, which provides toys to children from low-income Tarrant County families during the holiday season.

The Cowboy Santas Toy Drive results in the collection of thousands of new, unwrapped toys that are distributed to needy children in Tarrant County. Beginning today and continuing through Tuesday, December 16, individuals can drop off new unwrapped toys or books at either the Texas Rangers Grand Slam Gift Shop at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Rangers Fort Worth Team Shop at 316 Main St., or the Rangers Dallas Team Shop at 2222 McKinney Ave., Suite 140 during regular store hours. Items may also be dropped off at all Fort Worth Police and Fire Departments. 

On Tuesday, December 16 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., the Rangers will sponsor a Cowboy Santas Toy Drive Event at Globe Life Park in Arlington in the center field Vandergriff Plaza area. Current and former Rangers players will be on hand to sign autographs during this event. Holiday movies will be shown on the video screen, the Rangers KidsZone will be open, and drink and food specials will be provided by Sportservice. Other activities will include face painting, balloon artists, and a photo booth with a special appearance by Santa Claus. Donations of new unwrapped toys and books for boys and girls, newborn to age 12, will be greatly encouraged.

Fans attending the December 16 event may park in Lot B and enter Globe Life Park in Arlington through the Majestic Grand Slam Gift Shop.

More About Cowboy Santas:

The Cowboy Santas Program Inc. is a non-profit program that provides toys to children from low-income Tarrant County families, during the holiday season. The program began in 1981 at several Fort Worth Community Centers, and over the last two decades, the program has grown to cover all of Tarrant County. Cowboy Santas Program is recognized by the Internal Revenue Services as a 501 C(3) charitable organization.

The program is headquartered in the City of Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Department. During the 2013 holiday season, Cowboy Santas provided toys for more than 12,500 children from more than 5,000 families. TEXAS RANGERS FOUNDATION HOLIDAY SALES AT TEAM SHOPS

IN FORT WORTH AND DALLAS TAKE PLACE NEXT WEEK

The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will be holding special holiday sales events at the Rangers Team Shops in Fort Worth and Dallas on the following days:

Thursday, December 11 at the Fort Worth Fort Worth Team Shop, 316 Main St., 11:00 a.m-1:00 p.m. Pitcher Tanner Scheppers will be signing autographs from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Friday, December 12 at the Dallas Team Shop, 2222 McKinney Ave., Suite 140, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  Outfielder Michael Choice will be signing autographs from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Texas Rangers Mystery Baseballs signed by current and alumni players will be sold during each sale for $20.00 each with proceeds benefitting the Texas Rangers Foundation and Cowboy Santas. Game used jerseys, framed pieces, and limited game used bats will also be available for purchase at the two events.

New unwrapped toys for the 2014 Cowboy Santas Toy Drive can be dropped off during the sale events.

Puerto Rican Winter League

INF Trever Adams is batting .329 (25-76) with 5 doubles, 3 home runs, and 10 RBI in 20 games with Caguas.

Baseball America Prospect Rankings Released

Baseball America released its annual top 10 list of Texas prospects on Monday and 3B Joey Gallo claimed the top spot. RHP Jake Thompson, C Jorge Alfaro, OF Nomar Mazara, and OF Nick Williams also landed in the top five. RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez, SS Luis Sardinas, OF Ryan Rua, RHP Luis Ortiz, and INF Josh Morgan round out the list.
