Beginning on Opening Day, the Atlanta Braves will count down the home games left at Turner Field with a little help from their friends. The Final Season at Turner Field presented by WellStar kicks off on Monday, April 4, against the Washington Nationals.
A countdown ceremony will take place during the fifth inning of every home game this season, and a special guest will remove that game's number, starting with 81. From alumni to celebrities to fans, countdown guests will represent all facets of Braves Country. Members of the 1997 Braves team that opened Turner Field will kick off the countdown on Opening Day, and later this season guests such as Tom Glavine for #47, Chipper Jones for #10, Bobby Cox for #6 and Dale Murphy for #3 will take part in the countdown.
As part of the final season celebrations, the Braves are also encouraging fans to share their favorite memories of Turner Field via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #TurnerFieldMemory, or they can submit on www.Braves.com/finalseason.
These memories will run as part of a feed on www.Braves.com throughout the year, and several of the fans featured in the memories will be selected to participate in the game countdown ceremony this season.
Other final season tributes include bobbleheads that commemorate key moments in Turner Field history. Starting in April, the first will be a talking bobblehead playing famous calls by Skip Caray and Pete Van Wieren; followed by Andruw Jones' spiderman catch in 1999; Chipper Jones' homerun during the 2000 All-Star Game at Turner Field; and Bobby Cox being carried off in 2010 after the Braves clinched the NL Wild Card during his final season as manager. These bobbleheads will be marked with the Final Season at Turner Field logo and available for the first 20,000 people through the gates.
A jersey patch will also be worn on the Braves uniform all season. The Final Season at Turner Field logo will be available on Braves merchandise and other collector's items for fans to purchase this year.
