PHOENIX -- The Padres placed outfielder Travis Jankowski on the 10-day disabled list before Monday night's opener of a four-game series against the division-rival D-backs with a deep bone bruise in his right foot.
At this point, Jankowski is out indefinitely, Padres manager Andy Green said.
To fill the spot on the 25-man roster, the Padres recalled outfielder Jabari Blash from Triple-A El Paso. Green immediately put him in the lineup, playing left field and batting seventh against Arizona.
"We had his foot X-rayed, MRIed, CT-scanned all done and it was a bone bruise," Green said about Jankowski. "He just needs to be off it for a while. We'll put it in a walking boot for a while. I'm not sure how long he'll be out. Hopefully, it won't be too terribly long."
The 25-year-old Jankowski fouled a ball off his foot on April 14 against the Braves in Atlanta and has been hobbling since then. The left-hander hitter was batting .180 without a homer or RBI in 50 at-bats.
"He played for about a week on that and it was not getting any better," Green said. "It's one of those injuries that once the pain's gone, once the swelling's gone, he can start moving and there will be full activity. I know he's upset about it. He's tough. He was out there playing.
"You could see if you were watching closely that he was on one foot for the last five to seven games. That was partially on me for running him out there."

This is the second time already this season Blash, 27, has been recalled from the Minors. In his first four-game tour with the Padres, he was 0-for-8. In nine games at El Paso, the right-handed-hitting Blash batted .226 (7-for-31) with two homers and six RBIs.
Not surprisingly, Green said the outfield slot is wide open at this point.
"If any bat gets hot, we'll ride it," he said. "Jabari's here and he's playing today. [Allen] Cordoba will continue to play out there. I thought he had good swings again [Sunday]. He had a base hit that first at-bat. We love what he's doing out there, but I'd love to get Jabari going. He's never had an extensive run in the big leagues where we've said, 'Hey, just go play.'"
