Rays acquire Belnome from Padres, deal Rearick

ST. PETERSBURG -- Tampa Bay has traded left-handed reliever Chris Rearick to San Diego in exchange for infielder Vince Belnome.

Belnome, 24, bats left-handed. In 2012, he hit .275 with five home runs and 33 RBIs in 80 games for Triple-A Tucson, where he primarily played first and second base.

Over four Minor League seasons, Belnome has a .300 average with a .414 on-base percentage, 50 home runs and 245 RBIs. In 2011, he was named a Texas League midseason All-Star. He was selected by the Padres in the 28th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of West Virginia University.

Rearick, 25, was named Best Relief Pitcher in the Rays' Minor League system for each of the past two seasons.

In 2012, he went a combined 4-4 with 22 saves and a 2.70 ERA in 50 relief appearances between Class A Charlotte and Double-A Montgomery, and was named a midseason Florida State League All-Star.
