• The White Sox placed John Danks on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to March 22) to continue his recovery from left shoulder surgery. They also placed left-handed reliever Leyson Septimo on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to March 22) with a left shoulder strain and reassigned left-handed reliever David Purcey to Minor League camp.

With the moves, the White Sox have 31 players remaining in Major League camp: 15 pitchers, three catchers, nine infielders and four outfielders.

• Ventura officially named Dylan Axelrod as the team's fifth starter following Tuesday's 11-3 victory over the Rangers. Axelrod will get a solid first shot at filling the void left by Danks.

"I don't want him throwing every pitch thinking this is going to cost him next week or the next five days," Ventura said. "Let him go out and pitch and figure it out after."

• Friday's exhibition contest against the Brewers in Milwaukee will be a bullpen day for the White Sox. Hector Santiago is scheduled to throw in that night game. Axelrod, Jose Quintana and Gavin Floyd will throw in the Saturday afternoon game, although pitching coach Don Cooper might switch Axelrod to Friday. Cooper would like to get Axelrod in the 90-pitch range with this outing.

• Although A.J. Pierzynski was not in the Rangers' lineup Tuesday, there was time for friendly trash-talking with Chris Sale over Friday's Florida Gulf Coast University-Florida Sweet 16 contest in the NCAA Tournament, according to the pitcher. Sale is a proud alum of FGCU, while Pierzynski is a diehard supporter of the Gators.

"I couldn't be more proud of these guys," Sale said during a Monday night interview on the MLB Network Radio Channel on SiriusXM. "They've turned something [that was] really good into something great. And it's a young team, a lot of people are coming back, so we're going to be like this for a few years to come. It's going to be fun."
