Third to first

Jeff Keppinger played three innings Wednesday in an extended spring game in Arizona, as the infielder works his way toward a rehab assignment. Pain in Keppinger's surgically repaired right shoulder when he tried to throw the ball left him on the disabled list to start the season and forced him to basically restart his rehab program.

• The White Sox have made a Major League-best 973 quality starts since 2003, three more than the Angels.

Prospect Courtney Hawkins has three homers, four doubles and 12 RBIs over six games this season for Class A Advanced Winston-Salem.

• The White Sox acquired outfielder Gorkys Hernandez from the Royals and assigned him to Triple-A Charlotte, taking the spot of Jordan Danks, who was called up to the big leagues on Thursday. Hernandez last played in the Majors in 2012 with the Pirates and Marlins. He'll report to Charlotte on Saturday.
