TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18
NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND NIGHT
In recognition of the 40th anniversary of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) moving their national headquarters to Baltimore, the Orioles will host National Federation of the Blind Night at Oriole Park on Tuesday. During the game, Orioles players and coaches will wear specially-designed jerseys with Braille lettering of both "Orioles" and player last names, becoming the first team in American professional sports history to incorporate Braille lettering into their gameday uniforms. The jerseys will be autographed, authenticated, and auctioned at www.orioles.com/auctions to benefit the National Federation of the Blind.
The Orioles will welcome accomplished concert pianist CARLOS ALBERTO IBAY, who has been blind since birth, to perform the national anthem. MARK RICCOBONO, President of the National Federation of the Blind, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Riccobono will be available to speak with media on the warning track at 6:15 p.m.
The first 15,000 fans in attendance will receive a co-branded NFB/Orioles Braille alphabet card, which will be distributed by volunteers from the NFB. Additionally, members of the NFB will be at the OriolesREACH Community Booth near Gate D during the game.
BUCK SHOWALTER TO RECEIVE ORIOLE WAY AWARD
The Oriole Advocates will honor Orioles manager BUCK SHOWALTER, the winner of the 2018 Oriole Way Award during an on-field ceremony prior to Monday's game. The Oriole Advocates, with the support of the Baltimore Orioles, created the Oriole Way Award to recognize a member of the Orioles who has made significant contributions both on and off the field and who has demonstrated a sincere desire to serve the community. The award is presented annually to an Oriole whose participation in the community also embraces the Oriole Advocates' mission of promoting and stimulating interest in baseball. Since joining the Orioles in 2011, Showalter has been active with KidsPeace and the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS), among other organizations.
SUMMER SLUGGER PROGRAM CELEBRATION EVENT
On Tuesday, the Orioles will celebrate the second successful season of the Summer Slugger program, a math and literacy education initiative, by rewarding a deserving group of students with a special school visit. The Oriole Bird, along with members of the Orioles On Deck Employee Volunteer Program presented by Bank of America, will visit students in grades four and five at Germantown Elementary School in Annapolis. The Orioles will also be donating two tickets to each child who participated in the program at Germantown Elementary.
