Three Astros prospects win Minors honors

ANAHEIM -- The past week has been a good one for the entire Houston Astros organization.

While the Major League club won a season-high five straight games, three players in the farm system were recognized with Player of the Week honors.

Double-A Corpus Christi's George Springer was named the Texas League Player of the Week while Class A Lancaster's Preston Tucker and Brady Rodgers were named the California League Player and Pitcher of the Week.

Springer, ranked as the Astros' No. 3 prospect by MLB.com, has started the season strong and entered Monday hitting .310. He also led all of Minor League baseball with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs.

"George has been doing a great job," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "He's obviously one of our top prospects and we look forward to him continuing to do what he's doing, continue developing. When the time is right, he'll be here and be able to help this organization."

In the past week, the outfielder hit .394 with four homers and 13 RBIs. In the second half of Sunday's doubleheader, Springer really stood out as he went 3-for-5 with five RBIs.

Tucker hit .414 with 22 RBIs in the past week. The outfielder had at least two RBIs in seven of his past eight games. He had three RBIs on three separate occasions and drove in six Tuesday.

Rodgers, who is 5-1 with a 3.28 ERA in 2013, started one game and appeared in relief during another last week.

The right-hander threw a total of nine shutout innings in which he allowed just four hits and struck out seven.
