D'Backs "TIE GATE" Prank

I have always been a big fan of baseball pranks, and have even written a blog a few weeks ago detailing some of the best in baseball history. Over the course of a 162-game season, guys will do multiple things to keep the atmosphere in the locker room light. We've seen plenty of examples of teams that fall apart on the field as relationships in the locker room deteriorate, but teams who consistently work to keep a positive attitude tend to show positive results on the field.

After stumbling across a recent story from the D-Backs locker room, I am no longer surprised that these guys are playing good baseball and appear to enjoy being around each other.

Closer J.J. Putz conducted a YouTube search, looking for videos from manager Kirk Gibson's long and illustrious career in advertisements. What he found was beyond his wildest dreams. The commercial is absurd, and while Gibson's playing and managerial careers exemplify a hard nosed, tough-guy demeanor, the Right Guard spot goes in a somewhat different direction.

The story about the prank, written by Fox Sports Arizona, is definitely worth a look. Putz is pretty brilliant as he denies involvement in the tie-making controversy, and looks genuinely fearful when asked if he expects retribution from his skipper. Johnson, for his part, is unapologetic for embarrassing the former MVP.
