LAS VEGAS -- The Tigers are offering up a chance to play golf with manager Ron Gardenhire as part of Major League Baseball's annual Winter Meetings charity auction.
This year's auction will support the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the Negro Leagues Museum, two important institutions that educate future generations of young people through honoring significant moments and individuals of baseball's past.
The auction is live on MLB.com/wintermeetingsauction from now through Thursday, when it will conclude at 10 p.m. ET. Items include special baseball experiences, including meetings with some of the game's biggest stars, along with unique items donated by MLB and the 30 clubs.
Bid on featured items
The Tigers offered up their annual opportunity to meet a player during batting practice. The chance to golf with Gardenhire, however, is a unique experience. The winning bidder can bring two guests to play golf with Gardenhire at a date and course to be determined, along with four tickets to a Tigers game, parking in the Tigers Garage and four passes to watch batting practice on the field.
Gardenhire is an avid golfer who loves playing a round with his coaching staff when they have an off-day on the road.
The chance to play a round for a good cause makes the experience even better. Proceeds help benefit the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship program, which provides four-year grants for students to attend the undergraduate school of their choice and sponsors an annual leadership conference in New York City. The program will add a scholar for the study of sports. Proceeds also benefit the Jackie Robinson Museum, which is scheduled to open in New York City next year.
The proceeds that go towards the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will help the facility in Kansas City make repairs after this past summer's damage and vandalism.
