Jeimer Candelario gave Tigers fans a look at his potential on Wednesday with a powerful performance for Triple-A Toledo.
Acquired from the Cubs with Isaac Paredes in a Trade Deadline deal for Justin Wilson and Alex Avila, Candelario, Detroit's new No. 3 prospect (No. 92 overall), hit a solo home run and a double in his Tigers organizational debut. He finished 2-for-4 at the plate, pacing the Mudhens in a 5-1 win over Louisville.
After striking out swinging his first at-bat, the switch-hitting Candelario bounced back to record back-to-back extra-base hits, hitting a double to left field in the third inning and then going deep to left-center in the sixth. He tallied both hits from the right side of the plate, with both coming off of left-hander Amir Garrett.

Before joining the Tigers, Candelario had spent much of his season in the Pacific Coast League, where he slashed .266/.361/.507 with 12 home runs and 27 doubles in 81 games for Triple-A Iowa. The 23-year-old third baseman also had two stints in the big leagues with the Cubs, though he batted just .155 (5-for-33) with one home run and 12 strikeouts while appearing in 11 games.
Candelario was one of two promising third-base prospects acquired by the Tigers ahead of the Deadline, as they also landed Dawel Lugo (Tigers' No. 14) from the D-backs in the J.D. Martinez deal. Candelario is the better prospect of the duo -- by a lot -- with the tools to serve as an everyday third baseman in the big leagues, though it's unclear where he fits in Detroit's long-term plans at the position.

• No. 9 overall prospect Brendan Rodgers (Rockies' No. 1) doubled and homered in his first two at-bats before finishing 2-for-5 in Double-A Hartford's win against Akron. The home run, a solo shot in the third inning, was his 18th this season and his sixth in 33 games since being promoted to Eastern League.

• No. 48 overall prospect Jay Groome (Red Sox's No. 2) was dominant for Class A Greenville, allowing just one hit over a career-high six scoreless innings. The 18-year-old lefty threw 60 of his 91 pitches for strikes in the outing, walking one and striking out eight, also a career best. Before Wednesday's performance, Groome had allowed 15 earned runs on 20 hits and 10 walks in his previous 15 innings (four starts).

• No. 72 overall prospect Rhys Hoksins (Phillies' No. 6) snapped out of an 0-for-12 skid with his fourth multihomer game of the season for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 24-year-old first baseman powered the IronPigs to a 4-3 win over Rochester, connecting on a two-run shot in the first inning and then adding a solo shot in the third before finishing 2-for-4. A year removed from finishing second in the Minors with 38 home runs, Hoskins, with his 26 homers this season, leads the International League.

• Braves No. 14 prospectTravis Demeritte's pair of solo home runs accounted for all of Double-A Mississippi's offense in their 6-2 loss against Mobile. The 22-year-old infielder pushed his season home run total to 15 with the multi-homer performance, his second in 2017 and the ninth in his career, though he's batting just .214 overall.

• Dodgers No. 6 prospect Mitchell White faced two over the minimum en route to completing five scoreless frames in his best start for Double-A Tulsa. It was just the third Double-A start for the 22-year-old righty, who allowed one hit, struck out five and induced nine ground-ball outs. Overall, White has pitched to a 2.97 ERA in 57 2/3 innings (15 starts) across three levels this season. He's given up just 34 hits and zero home runs in that span, all while compiling 65 strikeouts against 22 walks and posting an excellent ground-ball rate.
• Making his Class A Advanced San Jose debut, Giants No. 20 prospect Garrett Williams entered in the second inning in relief of a rehabbing Mark Melancon and proceeded to set a career high with 10 strikeouts while firing six scoreless innings. He scattered five hits and walked three, with the 22-year-old righty throwing 61 of his 92 pitches for strikes in the outing.

"I just treated it like I was coming out of the bullpen," Williams told MiLB.com. "I came out of the bullpen in college so I was used to it. [Rehabbing Giants closer Mark Melancon] came in and got his work done, and I came in in the second and changed my mind to a starting mentality and went after hitters. I think [that experience helped] a little bit, just knowing how to get myself ready for the game. The second inning isn't as deep as I was used to in college."
• Reds No. 24 prospect Jose Siri recorded an infield single in his last at-bat for Class A Dayton to extend his Midwest League-record hitting streak to 38 games. During his streak, which began on June 22, the 22-year-old outfielder is hitting .343 with 13 home runs, 29 runs scored and 29 RBIs.

• Royals No. 14 prospectSamir Duenez finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in a perfect night at the plate for Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The 21-year-old first baseman tallied three extra-base hits in the contest, going 4-for-4 with a solo home run and a pair of doubles. He improved his season slash line to .266/.318/.420 with the four-hit performance, and he's now gone deep 14 times this season in 104 games.

• Tigers No. 12 prospect Tyler Alexander got back on track as he paced Double-A Erie in a 2-0 shutout of Altoona. Working 7 1/3 scoreless frames, he permitted three hits and struck out eight. Heading into his start, the 23-year-old southpaw had given up 12 earned runs in 7 1/3 innings between his two previous turns.
"I would say just the consistency throughout the game was the best it's felt," he said. "I've had a few games where I've felt it really good through the first half of my outing and I may lose it. Tonight, I was consistent with it, which is what I've been looking for."

• Tigers No. 11 prospect Gregory Soto's breakout season continued, as the 22-year-old lefty struck out nine over six scoreless frames to improve to 10-1 in 18 starts for Class A West Michigan. He yielded just two hits while walking three and throwing 50 of his 86 pitches for strikes. Soto ranks second among Midwest League hurlers in wins (tied), ERA (2.25) and strikeouts (116), and he's allowed just three home runs while posting a .204 batting average against in 96 innings.
