Pipeline Preview: Stewart on power parade for Erie

August 28th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Christin Stewart (Tigers' No. 5), Erie vs. Binghamton (6:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Stewart has multi-hit games in two of his past three contests after going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles for Erie on Sunday. The 23-year-old is batting .258 through 128 games this season. After hitting a career-best 30 homers last season, Stewart is putting together another impressive campaign as he currently leads the Eastern League with 28 homers.

Pitcher to watch: Josh Staumont (Royals' No. 9), NW Arkansas vs. Arkansas (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Staumont has struggled since he was promoted to Double-A, posting a 5.59 ERA through eight starts. However, he fired seven no-hit frames in his last start, a performance he is certainly looking to build off of. Although the zero hits were good, the righty still needs to improve his command considering he walked five in the outing.

Duel of the Day: Tanner Scott (Orioles' No. 6) vs. (Yankees' No. 14), Bowie vs. Trenton (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Scott has put together a strong season for the Baysox, posting a 2.39 ERA across 22 starts. The 23-year-old lefty gave up two runs in three innings in his last start and has held opponents scoreless in three of his past six outings.

After going 6-0 with a 2.62 ERA with Class A Advanced Tampa, Tate was promoted to Trenton, where he is 1-2 with a 3.66 ERA through three starts. Tate, 23, is coming off his best outing yet with Trenton as he allowed one run across 7 2/3 innings in his last outing.
