Reigning American League Rookie of the Year Michael Fulmer is in the midst of a fantastic second season in the Majors, posting quality starts in all eight of his outings.
The 24-year-old will look to make it nine straight as he and the Tigers take on the first-place Astros at Minute Maid Park as part of an abbreviated nine-game slate tonight, streaming live on MLB.TV.
Fulmer has been particularly hot, winning three straight starts for a 3-0 record with a 2.05 ERA in May. The right-hander has not allowed a home run in 22 innings in May.
The Astros, who are short of arms after placing ace Dallas Keuchel on the 10-day disabled list Saturday because of a pinched nerve in his neck, send righty Brad Peacock to the mound for his first start of the season. Peacock has performed admirably out of the Houston bullpen, going 2-0 with a 1.10 ERA in 16 1/3 frames.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET (7:10 p.m. local time).

Royals starter Jason Vargas held the Majors' lowest earned run average (1.01) entering his last start, but he registered his shortest outing of the season in an 11-7 loss to the Yankees on May 17. The veteran left-hander is seeking revenge after allowing six runs in four innings to the Yanks at Kauffman Stadium.

Michael Pineda, the winning pitcher in the May 17 contest, delivered a quality start giving up three earned runs in six innings, but he surrendered two homers. It's been a continuing trend for Pineda, who has served up 10 long balls this year after allowing 48 in 2015 and 2016 combined.

MLB.TV's Free Game of the Day features the Angels' JC Ramirez going head-to-head with the Rays' Jake Odorizzi at Tropicana Field.

Ramirez has been solid in May, completing at least six innings in all three of his outings, but he has not picked up a win this month. The right-hander is looking for his first win since April 30 when he takes the hill opposite the 27-year-old Odorizzi, who is 3-2 with a 3.16 ERA.
Greinke going good: CWS@ARI, 9:40 p.m.
Zack Greinke is trending back toward ace status after a down year by his standards in 2016, when he went 13-7 with a 4.37 ERA. The 33-year-old righty has picked up wins in each of his last three starts, compiling a 2.91 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings in that span.

The White Sox counter with right-hander Miguel Gonzalez, who has struggled since beginning the season 3-0. Gonzalez has seen his ERA rise from 2.00 to 4.29 in his last four starts, all losses.
