Tigers optimistic Suarez won't be out for long

NEW YORK -- Tigers shortstop Eugenio Suarez had an MRI on his left knee on Tuesday, and although the Tigers did not have the results prior to the game against the Yankees, they are feeling encouraged.

"He's moving around extremely well," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said prior to Tuesday's game. "So we are cautiously optimistic that this will be a more short-term issue."

Andrew Romine started at shortstop in Suarez's place and batted ninth on Tuesday.

Suarez was forced to leave Monday's game after successfully stealing a base in the fifth inning. Almost immediately after sliding into second base, he motioned toward the dugout for help.

It was reminiscent of the rookie Suarez's first game in the Majors earlier this season, when he injured his knee going into second base. He missed just two games then, and the Tigers are hoping this can be a similar issue that will heal with a few days of rest.
