Tigers resting Iglesias as elbow soreness lingers

NEW YORK -- Jose Iglesias was out of the Tigers' starting lineup for the second straight game on Sunday as he continues to deal with soreness just above his left elbow after he was hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of Friday's game.

On Saturday, Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Iglesias couldn't bend his arm. Iglesias has been icing the elbow, but is still battling some swelling and soreness. So he'll receive more treatment and rest in the hopes he can get back on the field.

After David Aardsma drilled Iglesias, he stayed in the game at shortstop for the bottom of the ninth inning. Fortunately, he didn't need to make any throws.

"I stayed one inning, but I was praying to not get any ground balls," Iglesias said.

As he did on Saturday, Ramon Santiago will start at shortstop in place of Iglesias.

Meanwhile, Omar Infante, who tweaked his ankle while rounding second base in Saturday's game, is starting at second base for the Tigers. Infante spent just over a month on the disabled list with a sprained left ankle before being activated on Aug. 12.

In 11 games since returning from the DL, Infante is hitting .386 with five runs scored and two RBIs.

Leyland said he'll monitor Infante's ankle and will likely give him a rest this week.

"He's OK. He's swinging good," Leyland said. "I'm a little hamstrung today without Iglesias, so I'll pick one of these next four days probably to give Omar a blow."
