Tigers Foundation selling bow ties for pediatric cancer

DETROIT -- If Wednesday's Tigers telecast seemed to feature a lot of people in similar-looking bow ties, there was a good cause behind it. The Detroit Tigers Foundation is selling 500 limited-edition bow ties in September to recognize Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Detroit Tigers Foundation as well as the ChadTough Foundation, named in honor of former University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr's grandson. Chad Carr passed away last fall after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

The tie design features a pattern of orange home plates over a blue background. The ties also feature a likeness of Chad Carr flexing his muscles. Orange was his favorite color. Tigers television broadcasters and club officials were wearing the ties during Wednesday's win over the Twins at Comerica Park.

The bow ties are numbered with a gold sticker on the box, with gold representing the color for pediatric cancer awareness. They can be purchased online by visiting tigers.com/bowtie.
