Tigers to host Athletics in three-game series at Comerica Park

DETROIT - The Oakland Athletics will visit for a three-game series (June 2-4). Tuesday's and Wednesday's games against the Athletics are scheduled for 7:08 p.m., while Thursday is a 1:08 p.m. start.

• 4* ALS Ceremony: Major League Baseball has partnered with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) organizations nationwide to raise awareness about the disease. The initiative remembers the great Lou Gehrig who inspired so many with his outstanding on-field achievements and unparalleled strength of body, mind and character. As Baseball remembers the legend, the teams honor all who have been touched by ALS, the disease that came to be named after the baseball great. MLB and the Detroit Tigers are proud to partner with many ALS organizations for this initiative, including ALS Association, Michigan Chapter, ALS of Michigan, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Greater Detroit District (MDA), ALS TDI and Project ALS. Thursday, June 4 vs. Oakland Athletics at 1:08 p.m. Gates Open at 11:30 a.m.

• Journalism Day: Prior to Thursday's game vs. the Oakland Athletics at 1:08 p.m., over 1,700 students from local schools will participate in Journalism Day, the fifth and final installment of the Tigers' annual "Class Outside Series." Students attending will learn about careers in journalism from the people who cover the Detroit Tigers for radio, television, print and other news outlets. This year's presentation will also include a discussion regarding the emergence of social media as an important journalistic medium in professional sports. Panelists for Journalism Day include representatives from the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, Toledo University and Cornerstone University.
• The ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by Tigers fans Steve Kiefer and Catherine Farr, along with former Michigan State University basketball player, Travis Trice.
• The national anthem will be performed by vocalist Nick Sheehan.
