Hudson, Vogelsong slated for NLCS Games 3, 4

ST. LOUIS -- Confirming plans that appeared obvious, Giants manager Bruce Bochy officially announced Sunday that Tim Hudson will start Tuesday's Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, followed by Ryan Vogelsong in Wednesday's Game 4.

Hudson preceded Vogelsong in the Giants' rotation all year, though Yusmeiro Petit pitched between them toward the end of the regular season.

Bochy cautioned that everything's subject to change if the Giants involve themselves in another standoff such as last Saturday's Game 2 of the Division Series at Washington, where San Francisco needed 18 innings and eight pitchers to outlast the Nationals, 2-1.

"If things go a little crazy, we'll have them all on alert," Bochy said. "It's all hands on deck in this series."

Hudson is 4-4 with a 5.26 ERA in 13 career starts against St. Louis. He defeated the Cardinals in his only appearance against them this year, allowing three hits in seven innings on June 1 as the Giants prevailed, 8-0.

Vogelsong owns a 2-6 career mark with a 6.17 ERA in 19 lifetime appearances, including nine starts, against St. Louis. That doesn't include his victories over the Cardinals in Games 2 and 6 of the 2012 NLCS. In both games, Vogelsong yielded one run and four hits in seven innings.
