Yankees reportedly set to name Naehring VP

The Yankees plan to promote Tim Naehring as the new vice president of baseball operations, according to Andrew Marchand of ESPN.com.

The Yankees have not confirmed the report. The club is expected to announce the move once the reorganization of the player personnel department is complete.

Naehring takes over for Billy Eppler, who was hired earlier this month as the Angels' new general manager. The 48-year-old Naehring will also assume all of Eppler's assistant GM duties.

Naehring was hired as a scout by the Yankees in 2007 after a stint in the Reds organization. He played eight seasons with the Red Sox from 1990-97, posting a career .282 average with 49 homers and 250 RBIs in 547 big league games.
