Torii holding steady in ASG balloting
MINNEAPOLIS -- Right fielder Torii Hunter remains the lone Twins player among the leading vote-getters for the 2015 All-Star Game, according to the penultimate American League ballot update, released on Monday.
Hunter ranks 14th among AL outfielders with 1,320,424 votes, and trails the three leading vote-getters among outfielders by a large margin. Angels center fielder Mike Trout leads AL outfielders, with 9,146,142 votes; Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain (9,079,146) and Royals left fielder Alex Gordon (7,810,995) round out the top three.
Brian Dozier, who has been one of the better second basemen in the AL this season, doesn't rank among the Top 5 at his position. The Royals' Omar Infante, who is hitting just .229/.237/.312, leads Houston's Jose Altuve by 435,540 votes. Infante is among seven Royals leading at their position, joining third baseman Mike Moustakas, shortstop Alcides Escobar, designated hitter Kendrys Morales, catcher Salvador Perez, and outfielders Cain and Gordon. The Tigers' Miguel Cabrera took over the lead at first base over Kansas City's Eric Hosmer.
