Reyes day to day with left knee soreness
Shortstop will get day off in series finale vs. Reds
CINCINNATI -- Jose Reyes is considered day to day after he departed Saturday's 11-1 loss to the Reds for precautionary reasons with left knee soreness.
Reyes fouled a ball off his left leg during an at-bat in the fifth inning. He was expected to be ready for the series finale, but manager John Gibbons already made the decision to give him a day off.
The 31-year-old Reyes was due for a day off anyway, and this should give him a little bit more time to recover. He won't have to play again until Monday night at home vs. the Yankees.
"I have to ice it like three more times tonight and see how it feels tomorrow," Reyes said. "Right now it's a little bit sore, but it's not a big deal.
"[Gibbons] went to my locker and said he was going to give me the day off. It's OK, I'll take that and see what happens."
Reyes got hurt during an at-bat vs. right-hander Mike Leake. Reyes finished his at-bat but was replaced in the field by Steve Tolleson.
Reyes missed two weeks earlier this season after he strained his right hamstring on Opening Day. He has remained relatively healthy since and is hitting .252 with 21 extra-base hits in 59 games.
