The Padres promoted outfielder Nick Torres from low Class A Fort Wayne to high Class A Lake Elsinore on Friday, while the Storm's resident outfielder named Nick -- Nick Schulz -- hit his fourth homer in a span of three games.

Meanwhile, the team Torres' departed won for the 15th time in 20 games to remain atop the second-half standings in the Eastern Division of the Midwest League.

Torres, 21, the Padres' fourth-round pick in the 2014 Draft out of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, was hitting .326 with 29 doubles for Fort Wayne. He led the Midwest League in doubles and was second in batting average when he was promoted.

In their first game without Torres, the TinCaps improved to 43-41 with a 8-7 win over Great Lakes at Fort Wayne. Second baseman Luis Urias won the game with a walk-off bunt single with one out in the ninth.

Infielder Mitch Morales was transferred from Fort Wayne to Tri-City.

As for Shulz (.251), the right fielder was 2-for-3 Friday night with his eighth homer and two runs scored in 35-50 Lake Elsinore's 5-4 loss at High Desert.
